Using the computer for long periods of time would most definitely take a toll on your eyesight.

Once you stare at artificial light too often, your eyes would get irritated and may cause some serious problems with your vision.

However, if you take a few extra steps to care for eyes in order to prevent future damage, using your computer the entire day could have minimal effects on causing eye strain.

Take a look at some of the ways you could help protect your eyes from excessive computer usage:

1. Clean the screen of your computer

Reducing the glare on your computer screen could lessen the risk of eye damage. Seeing clearly what's on the screen will help reduce the strain on both your eyes.

2. Blink from time to time

Be aware of how often you blink. As we tend to focus on the monitor, we sometimes don't notice that we're forgetting to blink our eyes. Blinking is important as it keeps your eyes from drying up.

3. Dim the lights

Although natural light is always the best kind of light, looking at the artificial light from your computer's screen in a bright room could cause significant damage to your eyesight due to the excessive brightness. Consider dimming your room using curtains or blinds whenever you're using your computer.

4. Adjust your monitor's brightness

At the same time, excessive brightness from your monitor could irritate your eyes and cause damage in the long run. Adjust the brightness of your computer as close to natural light as possible.

5. Take a break

It is important to give your eyes a break at least every hour in order for them to relax. Looking at some greenery or even natural lighting could help ease the tension on your eyes.

6. Mind your distance

Don't look too closely at your computer screen whenever you're working. The ideal distance you should have from your monitor is about an arm's length away.

7. Purchase specialized eyeglasses

Just to be extra safe, you might want to consider purchasing special eyeglasses that would help protect your eyes from the harmful light on the computer's screen. Consult an expert in order to find the right eye-wear for you.
