Being cheated on by your partner is perhaps one of the most painful things that could happen in your life.

Although it doesn't happen to everyone, cheating is one of the most leading cause of a failed relationship.

When this happens to you, it is important for you to be prepared and to know what you should do. Here are some of the things you should keep in mind when dealing with a cheating partner:

DO's

1. Do acknowledge your feelings

Accept that you are feeling sad or angry once you discover the unfaithfulness of your partner. Acknowledging how you feel would help you heal faster.

2. Do take care of yourself

Despite everything that you've learned and everything that has happened, do not forget to give yourself the care that you need. After all, it's not the end of the world.

3. Do ask for help

Be strong enough to ask your friends and loved ones for help. If you're feeling down, approach the people you are closest with to seek the comfort that you need.

4. Do seek counselling

An expert could help you a great deal when you experience heartbreak. In order to keep yourself sane, talk to a professional, such as a psychiatrist, in order to manage your emotions well.

DON'Ts

5. Don't blame anyone

Blaming your partner, the third party, or even yourself won't change the fact that you've been cheated on. Learn to accept the situation instead of pointing fingers.

6. Don't seek revenge

If you think that getting revenge on your ex and the third party would make you feel better, then you're absolutely right. However, it won't last for long. Destroying their relationship just because yours didn't work out won't change what has been done.

7. Don't play the victim

Acting as if you're the victim in this situation won't help you get over your partner's infidelity. Your self-esteem will drop and it would be more difficult for you to recover from the pain you're feeling.

8. Don't rush yourself

Never rush yourself from healing. Take your time, feel the pain. Hurting is a natural response. You shouldn't give yourself a deadline to recover.
