- Ex-Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales gets banned from entering Hong Kong
- Her lawyer said that she was deemed as a “security threat”
- The Palace asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to assist Morales
Former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales was not allowed to enter Hong Kong and was held at the airport. KAMI learned that the Palace asked the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to assist Morales.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Neil Arwin Mercado), lawyer Anne Marie Corominas confirmed that Morales was barred from entering Hong Kong for being a “security threat.”
“She was held in a separate room, separated from her family and she was told she was a security threat,” Corominas said.
“Former Ombudswoman Carpio-Morales has over 50 years of unblemished record in government service. I don’t know what the security threat [is], unless President [Xi Jinping] is afraid of her,” she added.
As mentioned in another report by the Inquirer (author Nestor Corrales), Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo mentioned that he already spoke with Foreign Undersecretary Ernesto Abella to assist Morales and her family.
As previously reported by KAMI, Morales and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario have filed a complaint before the International Criminal Court against Chinese President Xi Jinping, along with other local fishermen.
The communication against Xi was related to the alleged human rights violation of Beijing against Filipino fishermen.
