- A proposed law aims to provide free use of sanitary facilities in transport terminals
- The new law is now just waiting for the signature of President Rodrigo Dutertre for it to be passed
- The netizens also reacted to the new measure
A new measure aims to make comfort rooms in transport terminals be free of charge for the passengers. KAMI learned that the new measure is now just waiting for President Rodrigo Duterte’s signature for it to become a law.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Leifbilly Begas), the proposed law includes sanitary facilities in bus stops and stopovers. However, it does not include deluxe sanitary facilities.
“The right of every establishment to a fair return of investment carries with it a corresponding responsibility to provide adequate facilities for the comfort of their clientele,” it said in the measure.
“The maintenance of rest areas and service facilities is part of the services for human care of common carriers, hence additional payment should not be imposed on travelers,” it added.
Under the new measure, the passengers should only present their ticket to use the comfort rooms freely.
The proposed fine for violators is currently at P5,000. However, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) could increase this in the future.
The netizens are also in favor of the new measure. Here are some of their comments based on the Facebook page of GMA News:
“It should be free but sometimes maintenance everyday in charge cleaning provides toiletries maybe few cents can”
