Actress-turned-politician Vilma Santos successfully won her second term in Lipa City as a congresswoman. However, KAMI learned that her political rival is filing for an election recount.

As reported by Rappler (author Tina Ganzon-Ozaeta), Vilma had 96,749 votes, while her closest rival, incumbent Lipa City Mayor Meynard Sabili gained 61,821 votes.

However, Sabili plans to file a petition for a manual recount.

His wife, Bernadette Sabili, also trailed in the mayoral race. Bernadette had 76,511 votes, while Recto’s ally, Eric Africa, led the race with 78,109 votes.

Vilma was the first female to become a mayor in Lipa City. She entered politics in 1998 and won three consecutive elections. She also became a governor and the chairman of the Committee on Civil Service and Professional Regulation.
