The judges in “Idol Philippines” once again drew flak on social media because of how they commented after a contestant performed his audition piece.
KAMI learned that the controversial moment happened during the May 12 episode of the said reality singing competition in the Kapamilya network.
The contestant, whose name is Luke Baylon from Tuguegarao City, sang a reggae version of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys.
His version of the classic hit was really different from the original and only “Asia’s Songbird” Regine Velasquez said “yes” after the performance.
“Actually, I enjoyed it. I wasn’t a very clean performance. May mga flats, may mga sharp… Parang I didn’t care doon sa pagkadumi ng performance kasi it’s reggae…” she quipped.
However, the three other judges did not want Luke to advance to the next round, claiming that the performance lacked “something.”
James Reid also pointed out that the contestant failed to hit the appropriate notes and his timing was not good during the audition.
“Actually, I loved your rendition. It’s really fun… You have a voice and you can sing. It’s just lacking a bit with hitting the notes and the timing,” the actor commented.
“Hindi ganon kalakas ang dating sa akin. It’s not extra-special,” Vice Ganda added.

Because of this, the netizens expressed their disappointment after hearing the comments of the 3 judges who said “no” to the performance.
Some claimed that only a real singer like Regine will appreciate how Luke sang the famed song and that the other judges just look more on the physical appearance of the contestant.
Here are some of the comments from social media users:
“Si Regine lang naman ang true professional singer diyan and she knows what's the best and di nya deserve to work with the 3 judges. Seriously, they know nothing about the real music.”
“Idol Philippines is a beauty pageant not a singing competition.”
“Grabe! He deserves the spot! Do they even know reggae? Si Regine lang naka appreciate, my God!”
“At this point, Regine is the only one considered a judge here. The others are just commenting.”
“These 3 judges are the ones who are not ready! Hindi base sa looks ang kailangan when it comes to talent and everything... Pwede bang sa talent lang kayo tumingin at hindi sa looks nila!”
