Half of the Senatorial candidates of the opposition already accepted their defeat in the recently-held midterm elections in the Philippines.

KAMI learned that the “Otso Diretso” bets are currently out of the “Magic 12,” as evident in the latest partial and unofficial results where more than 94 percent of the votes were already transmitted.

The opposition supporters, however, are still praying and remaining positive that at least two of their candidates will make it to the Top 12.

Bam Aquino is by far the closest at 14th place while Mar Roxas currently ranks 15th. They have 13,737,605 and 9,558,849 votes, respectively.

In a report published by CNN Philippines, those who are in the lower ranks such as Romy Macalintal, Samira Gutoc, Erin Tañada, and former Solicitor General Pilo Hilbay already conceded their defeat.

"It is clear that a great majority of our voters have chosen other candidates. And I respect their decision,” Macalintal quipped.

"The will of the people is supreme, so we respect the results of the elections... This is not the result we hoped for, but it is the reality that we have to face with the optimism that we will have better days," Hilbay added.

The “Magic 12” is so far dominated by pro-administration candidates, with Cynthia Villar of Nacionalista Party leading the race with 24,445,372 votes.

In a previous article by KAMI, broadcast-journalist Jiggy Manicad also had his white flag waved as he presently ranks 20th in the Senate race.

“Otso Diretso” is supported by Vice-President Leni Robredo and its members have become staunch critics of President Rodrigo Duterte.
