Edu Manzano fearlessly took a swipe at the second division of Commission on Elections (Comelec) after he got disqualified from running in the May 2019 polls.

KAMI learned that the candidacy of the said actor was cancelled due to claims that “he was not a Filipino citizen” when he filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC).

The celebrity is aiming for a congressional position in San Juan City but he received the news that the Comelec second division will not allow him to run in the midterm elections.

Because of this, Edu defended himself through an interview with Karen Davila of ABS-CBN News and he questioned the timing of the release of the resolution.

He expressed that the Comelec should have waited for the final decision before publicizing the cancellation of his candidacy.

The actor-turned-politician also pointed out that he can still file a motion for reconsideration and the Supreme Court can also have a say regarding the matter.

“I was very, very surprised. Why the resolution from the second division was released… Yung finality will come from the Comelec en banc. And in the event na matalo ka, pwede mo pang i-elevate to the Supreme Court,” he quipped.

“I found the timing very suspect,” he added.

To clarify the issue, Edu insisted in the interview that he was a Filipino citizen when he filed his COC and that the complaint can be a black propaganda against him.

He also wrote through a social media post that the same attempt to disqualify him was already conducted two decades ago but he won the petition.

“Patricia Gil (the person who filed the petition in 2018) is the campaign manager of my opponent… Everybody knows her,” the actor stated.

“Ginawa na sa akin yan in 1998. Nanalo ako sa SC and went on to become Vice-Mayor of Makati,” he said on social media.
