- The spokesperson of Otso Diretso admitted that only Mar Roxas and Bam Aquino have higher chances of winning
- He said that they rely on their volunteers and citizens’ participation
- However, they still remain optimistic for the upcoming polls
Otso Diretso spokesperson Barry Gutierrez admitted that they knew from the beginning that only Senator Bam Aquino and former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas could make it to the Top 12.
KAMI learned that the opposition coalition has been relying on their volunteers and citizens’ participation to make it in the polls.
“From the start, alam naman namin na ganun ang mangyayari. That’s why we were relying very heavily on volunteers and citizens’ participation,” Gutierrez told CNN Philippines’ The Source.
“The reality is, no matter how optimistic we may be and no matter how much we take place a premium on volunteerism and citizen’s participation and volunteerism, that can only take you so far, particularly when you talk about surveys, where name recall is really the key thing,” he added.
Gutierrez noted that the opposition slate has lesser resources compared to the candidates endorsed by the administration.
Despite the low survey rankings of Otso Diretso candidates Chel Diokno, Samira Gutoc, Florin Hilbay, Gary Alejano, Romy Macalintal, and Erin Tañada in the national surveys, most of them are acing the mock elections and surveys in different schools and universities.
“It tells me that there’s a bright future for this country. ‘Yung mga batang Pilipino na nagaaral eh maganda ‘yung tingin sa Otso Diretso,” the spokesperson said.
The opposition remains hopeful since there had been instances in the past that candidates won despite not making it in the surveys.
As previously reported by KAMI, the Otso Diretso candidates commented on their low survey ratings. Only Roxas and Aquino were included in the Top 16. However, both candidates had been in and out of the Top 12.
