The Commission on Elections (Comelec) disqualified and denied the certificate of candidacy (COC) of actor Edu Manzano for the upcoming May polls. KAMI learned that the Comelec's second division cancelled his candidacy over conflict on his citizenship.
In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author RG Cruz), Manzano had “false material representation” with regard to his citizenship.
"It is undisputed that Respondent served in the US Armed Forces. Respondent, however, argues that he served in the US Armed Forces as a US citizen and at the same time retained his status as a natural born Filipino citizen. We do not agree,” Comelec said, as reported by Rappler (author Paterno Esmaquel II).
Manzano is vying a seat as the district representative of San Juan. He can still appeal to the decision of Comelec. His camp also questions the timing of his COC cancellation.
However, the actor has yet to comment regarding the issue. He said that he has not received the decision yet.
Born on September 14, 1955, Eduardo “Edu” Barrios Manzano is a TV personality and politician. He is a United States Air Force veteran. He recently exited from his role in ABS-CBN’s teleserye “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano” for his campaign in the upcoming polls.
In 2016 polls, Manzano ran as a senator. Unfortunately, he did not make it to the Top 12.
