- A candidate in Cavite went viral for his new political gimmick
- Instead of giving away candies and shirts, the candidate gave seeds to plant
- The netizens commended the candidate’s environmental campaign souvenir
A candidate in Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, Cavite, went viral for giving away free seeds during his campaign. KAMI learned that the netizens were happy with the candidate’s new gimmick.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Carlo Jacob Molina), reelectionist councilor Bevan Bencito was commended by the netizens for his political, yet environmental gimmick as a netizen shared the photo of the seeds.
“Natuwa lang ako kay konsehal Bevan, kasi imbis na candy yung ipamigay nya sa kampanya ang binigay nya ay seeds na pwedeng itanim. Nice one!” the netizen wrote.
The Facebook post went viral, garnering 35,000 engagements and 24,000 likes. Here are the comments of some netizens on the Facebook page of Inquirer:
“Kudos to this Candidate. An unusual campaign Material but Brilliant. Not only he campaigns for himself as a Candidate but also promotes his advocacy in Planting trees... A wiser move than giving away Candies, T-shirts, Fans, (Brown Envelope with Money), Etc. It could have been a 100% environment-friendly promotion, maybe next time, use paper bags and other eco-friendly Materials than plastic packs for the seeds.”
“This is not vote buying because the candidate is telling the voter na mag tanim which is the reason why he is giving away seeds, this is the manner of showing his platform of government by actually giving seeds.”
“Win or lose, this candidate is an environmental influencer by letting the people reap a good harvest from their own backyards.”
“whether he wins or not, his candicacy was put into good use.but I’d vote for this guy, not just for his ingenuity but also for his desire to initiate change.”
“How I wish all candidates use their campaign money to influence the youth to plant and do things for the Earth instead of wasting money through campaign jingles.”
“Di ako taga Cavite, pero mas bet kong makatanggap ng ganito kesa Shirt. That doesn't mean naman siguro na kapalit ay boto na kaagad. Nag.papakilala lang sya”
“Ay ang galing. Sa una pa lang may itinatanim na kabutihan para sa kalikasan. Sana naman itanim nung mga nabigyan, alagaan at pagyamanin. Hehe.”
“That's better. Hindi nya sinayang ang Pera ginamit nya na kampanya. At least Baka makatulong sa climate change”
“that's better rather than money na binibgay patago.”
As previously reported by KAMI, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) warned the politicians and voters of selling and buying their votes.
