A photo circulating on social media claimed that Senator Antonio Trillanes was holding the title of the West Philippine Sea to sell it to China, as ordered by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino II.

However, KAMI learned that this claim is false.

“’Yan po titulo ng lupa ng West Phill [Philippine] Sea. Sa China na po ‘yan beninta po naming ‘yan ni Noynoy. 16x ako pumunta sa China ‘di ba,” it said on the photo’s text.

The “16 times” mentioned referred to the allegations of President Rodrigo Duterte that Trillanes went to China for 16 times when he was still the Special Envoy to China under the Aquino administration.

French news agency, Agence France-Presse, made a reverse image search. They found out that the original copy of the photo came from a tweet by Yuji Gonzalez, former reporter for the Inquirer.

In the pictures, Trillanes was holding a complaint he filed against President Duterte during the 2016 polls. He claimed that the President used bank accounts linked to his alleged “ghost employees.”

As previously reported by KAMI, Senator Trillanes revealed how the Philippines lost the disputed Scarborough Shoal to China.
