Senatorial candidate and Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc has called out President Rodrigo Duterte anew over the promises he made for the teachers and to end contractualization.
KAMI learned that the Otso Diretso candidate reminded the President of his promises in celebration of Labor Day.
“Mr. President, today is Labor Day, and today I ask you, have you forgotten your promises to increase the salary of teachers and to genuinely end contractualization in the country?” she said, as reported by the Inquirer (author Pathricia Ann V. Roxas).
“I hope not, because amidst the natural and human-made calamities confronting the Filipino workers of today, they will not just stand their ground this day, but also on the May 13 midterm elections,” Gutoc added.
“Suportado kami sa teachers’ request kay Presidente na akyatin ‘yung kanilang sweldo. Dapat nga nauna sila eh, pero nauna ‘yung sundalo, pulis ganun po Mr. President ang priority ninyo," she continued.
As posted by the ABS-CBN News on Twitter, Gutoc and another senatorial aspirant, Erin Tañada, had a breakfast discussion with labor sector leaders from UNI Global Union and National Trade Union Center in Manila on Labor Day.
Tañada also urged the workers to show their force in the upcoming elections.
“Ipakita ang lakas ng boses ng manggagawa sa darating na eleksyon,” he said.
As previously reported by KAMI, Gutoc also called out President Duterte for leaving the rehabilitation of Marawi to the businessmen. She said that the President “dishonoured” Marawi and that it is his responsibility to restore the city.
