On Sunday, few senatorial aspirants attended CNN Philippines’ The Filipino Votes: Senatorial Debate. KAMI learned that during the “Face Off” segment, former PNP Chief Ronaldo “Bato” Dela Rosa and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno answered the question about the drug war.

As posted by the CNN Philippines on Twitter, the candidates were asked, “Where are we on the war on drugs?”

For Dela Rosa, he said that the Duterte administration is far from a drug-free Philippines. However, the former PNP chief said that compared to the previous administrations, they had done a lot more.

Dela Rosa said that during the past administrations, there were drug laboratories in the country. However, under the Duterte administration, they destructed the laboratories, and the illegal substance was imported from China.

Tignan natin,” Dela Rosa said.

When it was Diokno’s turn to answer, he immediately said: “Kalokohan po ‘yang death penalty na ‘yan.”

“The big problem is, ang tinitira nila puro maliliit na pushers, ang tinitira nila, puro mahihirap. Nasaan ang mga drug lord?” Diokno continued.

To defend President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war, Dela Rosa said that before intervening, people should know the pyramidal structure of the drug syndicates.

In the same debate, Dela Rosa said that people should not blame President Duterte for the issues regarding the influx of Chinese in the Philippines and their alleged control over the West Philippine Sea.

Mga Otso Diretso?” he said.
