Nonito Donaire Jr., also known as “The Filipino Flash,” successfully defended his WBA Super Bantamweight title by defeating Stephon Young, an American boxer.
KAMI learned that Donaire won via a devastating knockout in the sixth round of his fight in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Aside from keeping his belt, the Pinoy boxer was also able to advance into the Finals of the World Boxing Super Series Bantmaweight Finals.
He was able to control the majority of the rounds before stopping Young, who was a last-minute replacement for South African Zolani Tete as Donaire’s opponent. Tete suffered a shoulder injury days before the scheduled bout.
“I want to thank God for all he has done for me and the path he has set before me. My guardian angels especially Archangel Michael for keeping me safe and unharmed.
“I want to put our prayer warriors into effect for my opponent Stephon Young, that he has a speedy recovery and is in good health,” Donaire wrote on Instagram.

KAMI reported months ago that Donaire was also victorious against Ryan Burnett, who had to quit during their match after suffering a freak back injury.
With the latest victory, Donaire now has a record of 40 wins, 5 losses, and 26 KO wins.
He is expected to face pound-for-pound elite fighter Naoya Inoue of Japan in the finals of the series.
