President Rodrigo Duterte made his fourth visit to China and had a bilateral meeting with President Xi Jinping. KAMI learned that the President raised the concern of the Filipinos over the West Philippine Sea.
In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Arianne Merez), Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that the President discussed the issue about the Pag-asa Island.
“Both agree that the situation can be managed by the mechanism of bilateral negotiations but it should not affect the cooperation being undertaken by both the Philippines and China and they look forward to a productive discussion on matters of mutual concern and interests,” Panelo said.
As reported by the GMA News (author Virgil Lopez), President Xi referred to President Duterte as his “genuine friend” and “trusted partner” during his opening remarks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The Chinese President also offered his condolences to the Philippines after the several earthquakes that had happened in the country the past few days.
As previously reported by KAMI, President Xi visited the Philippines last November 20, 2018. He signed deals and agreements to strengthen the ties between China and the Philippines.
