Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio recently shared that she is against federalism. KAMI learned that the views of Duterte-Carpio were also different from her father’s, President Rodrigo Duterte.
Through a tweet by the ABS-CBN News, the Davao City Mayor said that federalism would not be fit for places that have “kingdoms” like in Mindanao.
"Ang Mindanao is an area na merong mga ‘kingdoms,’ mga local politicians, local warlords. I do not think na tama ibigay ang mas malaking powers kapag ganoon ang set up ng isang lugar,” Duterte-Caprio said.
“Lagi kong sinasabi I am not for federalism, but I say decision iyan ng Congress, decision iyan ng president natin," she added.
Duterte-Carpio led the campaign rally of Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) in Jolo, Sulu on Thursday.

As reported by KAMI before, President Duterte met with Moro National Liberation Front (MILF) founding Chairman Nur Misauri. The President said that the MILF leader would declare a fight if federalism is not passed. However, President Duterte said that there should be a Congressional concurrence for it to be passed.
KAMI also reported earlier that the House of Representatives approved for third and final reading the federal charter change led by House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. However, the Senate said that they are “doubtful” that the federalism will be passed.
