Otso Diretso candidate and Marawi civic leader Samira Gutoc has taken her thoughts to social media to slam President Rodrigo Duterte over his remarks regarding the rehabilitation of war-torn Marawi.
KAMI learned that for Gutoc, the President “dishonored” Marawi and those who sacrificed their lives during the siege that happened in 2017.
Gutoc added that she was hoping for Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo to clarify the statement of President Duterte. She also mentioned that the money being used to rehabilitate Marawi was not his money, but the taxpayers’ money.
The Marawi civic leader insisted that it is the President’s responsibility to restore the establishments in the damaged city.
As reported by the CNN Philippines, President Duterte said during a situation briefing that he would be leaving the reconstruction of buildings in Marawi to the businessmen there.
"Hindi ako maggagasta ng ano. Maraming pera ang mga tao diyan. Every Maranao there is a businessman. Kasali na 'yung shabu, may pera sila," he said.
During the 2017 siege, at least 900 terrorists, 47 civilians, and 165 government troops were killed. The government allotted P67.99 billion for rehabilitation.
