- President Rodrigo Duterte said that he would go into "war" against Canada for the garbage they shipped to the Philippines
- He said that he would give a warning to Canada regarding the issue
- The President added that he would not tolerate what the foreign country did to the PH
President Rodrigo Duterte called out Canada for the trash they illegally shipped to the Philippines almost five years ago.
KAMI learned that the President also threatened to declare "war" against Canada if they do not get their trash back from the country, as reported by the ABS-CBN News (author Arianne Merez).
“Yung basura ng Canada, I want a boat prepared. I’ll give a warning to Canada maybe next week that they better pull that thing out or I will set sail doon sa Canada, ibuhos ko 'yang basura nila doon,” the President said.
“Eh di ano? Awayin natin ang Canada. We’ll declare war against them, kaya man natin sila. Isauli ko talaga ah tingnan mo,” he continued.
“I will advise Canada that your garbage is on the way, prepare a grand reception, eat it if you want to. Kinakaya-kaya tayo di ako papayag ng ganun,” President Duterte added.
In 2013 and 2014, about 103 containers of garbage were shipped to Manila. The items were misdeclared as plastic scraps.
During the visit of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Manila last 2017, he said that they were already finding a solution regarding the issue. The Prime Minister also cited “legal barriers” as the reason why they could not take back their waste.
As previously reported by KAMI, President Duterte presided a situation briefing in Pampanga and discussed the government’s plans after the magnitude 6.1 earthquake that jolted Luzon and damaged some parts of Pampanga.
