The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that anyone can visit the Scarborough Shoal and that there is no permit or clearance needed to do it so.
KAMI learned that opposition candidate, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, has sent a formal request addressed to the PCG to allow them visit the shoal.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Daphne Galvez), PCG Spokesperson Armando Balilo said that he has no information yet if their agency received the letter already.
“Hindi naman nila kailangan mag-apply ng permit o clearance kasi lahat naman pwede magpunta doon [sa Scarborough Shoal],” Balilo said in a phone interview.
“Walang prohibition on the part of PCG,” he added.
As reported by the GMA News (author Erwin Colcol), Alejano announced that they wrote to the PCG to seek for formal clearance about their planned visit to the Scarborough Shoal.
“We are informing them so that they can monitor our activities and also provide necessary assistance should there be emergencies or anything that would happen there," Alejano said.
In a previous report by KAMI, Alejano said that the PCG did not issue any permit to allow them to visit the shoal. The candidate said that it was the local fishermen who informed them that they have to secure a clearance from the PCG first before fishing.
