President Rodrigo Duterte criticized the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) over their report questioning the growing wealth of his family, including Paolo and Sara Duterte, even though their salary from public service is not that big.

KAMI learned that for the President, their earnings outside the government service is “none of your” business, while not dropping any name or organization.

“What we earn outside (of government service) is none of your business actually,” the President said, as reported by the Inquirer (author Nestor P. Burgos Jr.).

During the speech of President Duterte at the 25th National Convention of the National Federation of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines, the chief executive threw strong words against investigative journalism.

“Makita mo yung mga utak ng investigative journalists. Pera-pera lang yon,” he said.

As reported by the ABS-CBN News (reporter Vivienne Gulla), the PCIJ claimed that the Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth of the Duterte family showed a tripled increase of their wealth from 2007 to 2017. The claim added that there was still undeclared wealth or properties in the President’s SALN.

"'Yong mag-advertise kami sa pangalan namin, well, there's nothing wrong as long as you do not practice and you do not help people get something from government that is illegal," he said.

"'Yan ang tingnan nila, hindi 'yang mga law office namin and what happened to our business partnership,” the President added.

However, PCIJ said that it is the right of every Filipino to know the SALN of public officials.
