The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) warned those who shared the scandalous video of singer Jim Paredes online. KAMI learned that the sharers would be held liable under the law.

In a report by the Inquirer (author Christia Marie Ramos), DICT Acting Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. said that sharing of private videos are punishable under the cybercrime law.

“Do not share anything na talagang, that is you know a private, ‘no? Na… common sense lang na hindi dapat i-share…because of the cybercrime law,” Rio said.

“Yes, yes, yung mag-share. Nasa cybercrime law, di ba nga kung mag-like ka lang eh, minsan may liability ka na rin?” he added.

Rio also mentioned that ignorance of the law does not excuse anyone from being held liable for a particular violation.

“Ignorance of that law, pag di mo alam na mayroon pa lang punishment na mag-like lang o mag-share, does not excuse you, ikaw ay mahuhuli diyan,” he said.

As previously reported by KAMI, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that they are willing to help Paredes if ever he would seek help from them to investigate how the video circulated on social media.

KAMI also reported earlier that Paredes admitted it was him in the viral scandal after claiming that it was “fake” at first.

Born on August 31, 1951, Jaime Ramon “Jim” Paredes is a known singer and music producer. He is one of the members of the iconic music group "APO Hiking Society."
