- Aiko Melendez backed out of her role in the new ABS-CBN teleserye, “Sandugo”
- She was replaced by veteran actress Vina Morales
- Aiko revealed the reason why she was substituted in the series
Kapamilya actress Aiko Melendez finally exposed to public the real reason why she was substituted by Vina Morales in the upcoming teleserye, “Sandugo.”
KAMI learned that the former was tapped to play an important role in the said drama series but she decided to back out even though the publicity photos were already released.
Aiko expressed in a media interview that her good friend Vina will take her role in the show due to some personal matters.
She stated that she wants to support her boyfriend Jay Khonghun, who is running for a vice-gubernatorial position in the May 2019 elections.
“Sadly, hindi namin kasi nakita itong mangyayari, itong nangyayari ngayon sa sitwasyon namin ni Jay. So, I had to decline,” she quipped.
“Pasensya na po. And babawi po ako sa inyo. Mas kailangan lang kasi talaga ako ngayon ni Jay,” she added.
The 2018 MMFF Best Supporting Actress also revealed that Vina first consulted her about the role and she even asked for Aiko’s permission before accepting it.
Aiko, meanwhile, admitted that the role may not be for her and that she is more needed by her partner in his political campaign.
“Kaibigan ko si Vina. Sabi nga ni Vina sa akin, ‘Sis, tanggapin ko yung project na para sa ‘yo?’ Sabi ko, ‘Tanggapin mo dahil maganda iyang project na iyan,’” she stressed.
“But you know, sa buhay ng tao, di ba, there’s always a reason for everything. Maybe hindi talaga para sa akin dahil mas kailangan ako ni Jay ngayon,” she added.
In a previous article by KAMI, Aiko made a brave confession about her and ex-husband Jomari Yllana.
Aiko Melendez is a veteran Filipino actress who had a major contribution to the success of “Rainbow’s Sunset” during the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
She also became a part of other blockbuster movies including “Barcelona: A Love Untold” and “Everyday I Love You.”
