A man that is an alleged member of the “Budol-budol Gang” stole money from a woman he just met at a mall in Manila. KAMI learned that the suspect even pretended to be the boyfriend of the victim to avoid suspicions in public.
In a report by the GMA News’ 24 Oras, the two met in a mall in Ermita. The lady asked the suspect for the directions going to Quiapo Church. The man insisted that he will accompany the victim to the said church.
While they were walking, it can be seen in the CCTV footage that the suspect held the hand of the victim and as if they were in a relationship.
According to the victim, the man said that he has to go to an optical shop first to collect a payment. The suspect also borrowed money from the victim, saying that he has nothing to give for the exchange.
As the victim was waiting outside the shop, the suspect was seen counting the money he was holding and immediately escaped through a different exit. The suspect was able to steal P2,500.
When the authorities asked the victim to describe the suspect, she said that he was good-looking.
“Ang sabi niya raw po kasi, ‘yung itsura nung lalaki, ‘gwapo,’ ganun,” Executive Officer Anthony Sta. Maria said.
The authorities mentioned that this is the first time they encountered a case that the suspect pretended to be someone’s boyfriend.
The barangay officials reminded everyone to be careful at all times, especially when dealing with strangers whether they are good-looking or not.
