The summer season is here again. Everyone does not like the sticky and sweaty feeling that the hot days are bringing. Many choose to stay in an air-conditioned room most of the time, while others want to stay in front of the electric fan to bear the heat.
However, KAMI learned that there could be dangers in spending too much time in an air-conditioned room and in front of the electric fan.
In an episode of ABS-CBN’s Salamat Dok, Dr. Ma. Encarnita Limpin, has given warning to those who want to get rid of the heat with the help of air-conditioner and electric fan.
While staying inside an air-conditioned room, she said that it is essential to make sure that the aircon is clean.
“May higher risk na mag-spread ng infection kasi may mga bacteria na nag-ta-thrive doon sa aircon na nag-ca-cause ng mga typical pneumonia,” she said.
In addition, it is also not advisable to spend too much time in a cold room because the change of temperature once the person gets out of the room could bring harm.
“Talagang makakasama lalo na kung sa mga taong may hika, and yung kanilang trigger ng hika nila ay ‘yung extremes of temperature,” Dr. Limpin stated.
When using an electric fan, it is recommended to set it in rotation mode so that the air would circulate. It is also essential that the electric fan is clean because it might contain dust mites that could cause allergic rhinitis or asthma when inhaled.
During the hot season, it is very much important to stay hydrated. Since people tend to produce more sweat during this time, a lot of fluid should be taken in as well.
As previously reported by KAMI, drinking a lot of water can also lessen the risk of heat stroke. There also other ways to avoid heat stroke this summer.
