The campaign manager of Senatorial aspirant Mar Roxas, Caloocan 2nd District Rep. Edgar Erice, urged the Filipino voters not to fall for fake news about the allegedly missing Yolanda funds under the care of Roxas in 2016.

In a report by the Inquirer (author Gabriel Pabico Lalu), KAMI learned that Erice mentioned that they are grateful for Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson for speaking up and denied all the allegations about Roxas.

“Malinaw sa mga COA report, sa mga ginawang imbestigasyon, at ngayon, sa sinabi ng rehabilitation czar na si Senator Ping Lacson: Walang ninakaw na Yolanda funds si Mar Roxas,” Erice said.

“Kaya nga kasabay ng pasasalamat namin kay Senator Ping, nananawagan kami sa ating mga kababayan: Doon lang po tayo sa totoo,” he added.

Erice also warned the Filipinos about the fake news spreading on the Internet, especially now that the mid-term polls are coming. He said that every decision and vote is important because this will affect the future of our nation.

“Tiwala kami na ang pagbabatayan nila ay ang katotohanan, at hindi ang sabi-sabi ng kung sinu-sino sa internet,” he claimed.

According to a report by the GMA News (author Amita Legaspi), Lacson cleared the name of Roxas because it was unfair to the former Interior Secretary who became as the “poster boy of Yolanda” even if he had nothing to do with the funds.

'Yung DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government), nag-provide ng cash assistance sa mga local government units, and dumaan lang naman sa kanya 'yun. It's unfair, to say the least, na parang siya yung naging poster boy ng Yolanda," Lacson said.

"I would like just to correct that very wrong information na si Secretary Roxas parang abused the funds. Far from it. It never happened. Huwag namang ibato sa kanya ang Yolanda funds kasi he never took advantage, because there was no way for him to have that opportunity to take advantage," he added.

Lacson also supported the candidacy of Roxas, saying that he could be an “asset” in the Senate.
