- Gay acts and adultery will soon be punished with death by stoning in Brunei
- Thieves will also be facing hand and foot amputation
- However, many people worldwide oppose the new measure
The Sultanate of Brunei will soon be implementing a new law seeking to punish “homosexual acts” and adultery with death by stoning. KAMI learned that thieves would also be punished with amputation.
In a report by the GMA News, the strict Sharia law that has been on hold for four years will take effect on April 3. However, many human rights advocacy groups oppose the measure.
While homosexuality is already illegal in Brunei, it will still be considered as a capital offense. However, the law only applies to Muslims.
According to a report by the ABS-CBN News, thieves in Brunei will be punished by amputation. For the first offense, the thief’s right hand will be cut off and then the left foot for the second offense.
The Amnesty International urged Brunei to "immediately halt" the implementation of the new measure. They said that consensual intercourse between adults of the same gender should not be deemed as a crime.
It was also reported that only Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is expected to make the official announcement on April 3 about the new Sharia laws.
