Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo has commented regarding the issue that Chinese authorities were shooing away local fishermen from the Scarborough or Panatag Shoal as seen in the documentary by Senatorial aspirant Neri Colmenares.

In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Dharel Placido), KAMI learned that there is nothing that the Duterte administration could do right now since China has control over it.

“May magagawa ba tayo eh sila ang may kontrol as of now, meron silang pwersa doon. We can only protest like any other country na nagki-claim, like Vietnam. Iyun lang ang magagawa natin eh. You want us to declare war against them?” Panelo said.

He also added that China has control over it since they deployed military forces there.

However, Panelo said that the fishermen should be able to provide proof that they were harassed by the Chinese authorities.

“You have to show proof that it is still happening now. We will protest. We will not allow that to happen to our fishermen,” he said.

According to a report by Rappler (author Pia Ranada), Colmenares shared a documentary on his Facebook page about the fishermen from Zambales. One of the fishermen said that Chinese vessels allegedly threw water cannons to them so that they cannot enter the Panatag Shoal.
