The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has been offering cash benefit to the distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) once they come back to the Philippines.

KAMI learned that since 2015, there has been an increase of OFWs who availed the “Balik Pinas, Balik-Hanapbuhay” or reintegration program from almost 3,000 to 34,420.

According to a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Zen Hernandez), all members of OWWA can receive a cash benefit whether they are active members or not. However, OFWs can only avail the benefit once a year and within 12 months after their arrival here in the Philippines.

Active OWWA members can get P20,000, while inactive members with more than one contribution can receive P10,000 and P5,000 for those who only had one contribution.

Eligible members can also avail the OFW – Enterprise Development and Loan Program (EDLP) if they want to put up a business. However, they should complete the Enhanced Entrepreneurial Development Training and the approval is still up to their bank partner.
