- The Vice President urged the Congress to pass a law regarding this matter
Vice President Leni Robredo urged the Congress to regulate the creation of social media accounts, especially now that the mid-term polls are drawing near. KAMI learned that Robredo wants to punish those who create fake social media accounts just to spread fake news.
“Ako, kailangan talaga iyong Kongreso magpasa ng mga batas na kahit paano may regulation iyong posts sa social media,” Robredo said, as reported by the GMA News (author Llanesca T. Panti).
The Vice President said that there should be accountability on social media just like on traditional media to refrain people from spreading false propaganda.

“Kasi at least kung may accountability, mayroong responsibility to post kung ano lang iyong mga totoo. Pero ito kasi, wala, eh,” the Vice President added.
In a report by the Inquirer, Robredo insisted that unregulated social media is unfair for the people who rely on social media to gather information.
“Sometimes you can’t blame them because they think it’s true. But what is being fed to them is propaganda,” Robredo stated.
The Vice President said that the government should take serious actions before things worsen. She also reiterated that the damage caused by social media would take a lot of time before it can be fixed again.
