- A grandmother has recently celebrated her 102nd birthday in Cebu
- She also shared the secret to having a long life just like her
- The city government has rewarded her P100,000 and a cake in time of her celebration
A grandmother in Cebu has recently celebrated her 102nd birthday. KAMI learned that the centenarian received cash and cake from the Lapu-Lapu City government.
In a report by SunStar Cebu, Maximina Quintero was given P100,000 by the city government and Mayor Paz Radaza personally turned over the cash.
Quintero has 8 children, but only four of them are still alive. She also has a total of 74 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her secret to a long life? Cutting off meat and being a vegetarian.
The 102-year-old came from a family of farmers in Negros Oriental and she has been eating vegetables ever since then and she also drinks “tuba.” Her daughter also joked that another secret would be not taking a bath every Tuesday and Friday.
Quintero was the fourth person to receive the cash gift since the ordinance that mandates Cebu City’s government to give financial assistance to centenarians was passed in 2017.
"It's already a reward for her that she is still with her family. The cash assistance is meant to give importance to our centenarians and how they continue to survive for their families," Mayor Radaza said.
According to a report by ABS-CBN News, while Quintero has a blurry vision, she can still hear and speak clearly. However, she has been having a hard time walking since she encountered an accident last year.
