- Archbishop Socrates Villegas slammed President Rodrigo Duterte through a Facebook video
- Villegas showed a compilation of videos where Duterte criticized the Catholic Church
- The archbishop reminded the Catholic voters about their faith now that the mid-term polls are drawing near
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas has posted on Facebook a video slamming President Rodrigo Duterte just a day before the Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Catholic penitential season of Lent.
KAMI learned that Villegas posted the video to remind the Filipino voters, most especially the members of the Catholic Church, of their faith when voting in the upcoming mid-term polls.
The video started with the phrase: “I believe… therefore, I reject!”
Right after that, video compilations of President Duterte criticizing the Catholic Church were shown. Some of the videos included were the moments when President Duterte said, “Who is this stupid God?” and “Your God has no common sense, my God has a lot of it.”
In between the compilations were videos of Villegas reading Bible passages as a counterpart of Duterte’s criticisms.
“The Lord said, ‘Are you betraying the son of man with a kiss.’ My dear brothers and sisters, are you going to betray God? Are you going to deny your faith by your vote?” Villegas said.
In a report by KAMI before, President Duterte said that the Catholic Church may “disappear” in 25 years because of the rampant controversies it has been facing, most especially in terms of abuse.
