Budget Secretary Benjamin Diokno has been assigned by President Rodrigo Duterte as the new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) governor.
KAMI learned from CNN Philippines that Diokno is the first non-BSP official to assume the post since 1999 after the late BSP governor Rafael Buenaventura.
The Palace also expressed their gratitude that Diokno is the one taking over BSP. Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Philippines’ banking institutions “are in a good and competent hands.”
According to a report by the Inquirer, the new assignment of Diokno was announced during the 35th Cabinet meeting. The announcement came after almost a week since former BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr. passed away last February 23 after battling with cancer for over a year.
