- This also mandates PhilHealth to come up with exclusive packages for the PWDs
President Rodrigo Duterte has recently signed a law that aims to provide a mandatory PhilHealth coverage to the persons with disability (PWDs).
KAMI learned that the President signed the proposed measure last February 22 but a copy of the Republic Act 11228 was released on Monday.
In a report by GMA News, the government will be the one providing for the premium payments of the PWDs and it will be coming from the collected sin tax. The PhilHealth is also mandated to create exclusive packages for PWDs in order to address their own certain health needs.
The newly signed law also mandates the Department of Health to work with the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and other related government agencies and even the non-government ones.
According to a report by the Sun Star, the DOH is tasked to maintain a database that contains the information of the PWDs, as well as their indicated health and development needs.
The RA 11228 will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
As previously reported by KAMI, President Duterte has recently signed into law the Universal Health Care Act which aims to provide health coverage to all the Filipinos.
