- The Department of Information and Communications Technology has confirmed that they already talked with Facebook about the viral “Momo Challenge”
- They said that Facebook will be blocking the viral challenge in their platforms including WhatsApp
- Earlier, DICT also joined forces with the National Bureau of Investigation
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has been working with social media site Facebook to put an end to the viral “Momo Challenge.”
KAMI learned that DICT announced on Friday that they already talked with Facebook which also carries the messaging app, WhatsApp.
“We already talked with Facebook kasi Facebook ang nagke-carry ng WhatsApp and they already agreed they’ll pull out or they will block all ‘Momo Challenges’ na papasok sa kanilang platform,” said Information Technology Secretary Eliseo Rio Jr. in a report by Inquirer (author Krissy Aguilar).
“Tinitignan din natin kung saan pa ‘to magpapop-up. Ang problem din kasi nitong nasa social media, kung mablock sila sa isang platform, madali silang makagawa sa ibang platform,” Rio added.
According to a report by the Philippine Star, Facebook told the DICT to send them the URL or Uniform Service Locator and any other link related to the Momo Challenge so they can take it down as well.
As previously reported by KAMI, the DICT has joined forces with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to determine the source of the viral challenge. However, they also said that it will be a hard task to filter the Internet.
The Momo Challenge is a viral dare that circulated online. The challenge encouraged the people, most especially children, to follow the dares like hurting one’s self and others or watching horror movies.
