- There were at least 14 people who got injured by the incident
An elevator in a high-rise building in Makati, the PBCom Tower in Ayala Avenue, accidentally dropped from the 52nd floor with 28 passengers boarded in it. KAMI learned that around 14 of the passengers were injured by the incident.
In a report by ABS-CBN News (reporter Fred Cipres), the passengers were able to use the emergency brake that was why it stopped at the 12th floor. However, the passengers could not open the door and that was when the elevator dropped again to the ground floor.
According to a report by the Inquirer (author Krissy Aguilar), the passengers sustained minor injuries.
“Ang dinala po sa ospital, ang official talaan po ay 14. Hindi naman po yung seryosong sugat. Yung iba nahilo, yung iba nagkauntugan, yung iba sumuka,” said Makati City Police chief Senior Superintendent Rogelio Simon.
Simon also said that the main fault in the accident was that 28 passengers boarded and they used the service elevator.
“Ang mali po talaga dito ay 28 po silang sumakay, ang ginamit nilang elevator ay yung service elevator. Kaya nagmalfunction po yung pagbaba niya,” Simon stated.
