- Imee Marcos has been claiming that she graduated from the Princeton University
- However, the official student newspaper of Princeton published an article that stated otherwise
- They quoted the deputy spokesperson who said that Marcos was not awarded a degree by the Ivy League school
The award-winning student newspaper of the Princeton University, The Daily Princetonian, has published an article saying that Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos “falsely” claimed that she graduated from the Ivy League school.
KAMI learned that The Daily Princetonian quoted what Deputy University Spokesperson Michael Hotchkiss told the student newspaper through an e-mail.
Hotchkiss said that Marcos studied Religion and Politics in Princeton from fall 1973 to spring 1976 and then in fall 1977 to spring 1979. However, she did not finish it and was not able to graduate.
“Our records do not show that Ms. Marcos was awarded a degree,” Hotchkiss stated.
According to their report, Marcos was not an average student. The Asian-American Students Association (AASA) protested the acceptance of Princeton to let Marcos study in the prestigious university.
“She would live off campus, be escorted by Philippine security personnel, and be driven to and from campus by a Filipino chauffeur,” it read.
The AASA said that they were worried that the presence of Marcos and her security personnel might be threatening to other students who were “critical” to former President Ferdinand Marcos’ administration.

In a previous report by KAMI, Rappler published a fact-check article saying that they also received an e-mail from Hotchkiss containing the same message. Marcos has claimed several times before that she graduated from Princeton.
However, KAMI also reported earlier that after the allegations about Marcos not having a degree from Princeton, the Ilocos Norte governor said that as far as she knew, she went to Princeton and graduated. She also added that she does not know the spokesperson (Hotchkiss) who claimed that she was not able to attain a degree.
