- The construction of Metro Manila subway has officially started
- The underground rail system will end its construction by 2025
- It will have stations from Valenzuela City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport
The construction of the first-ever Metro Manila subway has officially started as Philippine and Japanese officials have kicked off the ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday.
KAMI learned from ABS-CBN News that the 36-kilometer underground rail system will be having stations from Valenzuela City to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The Department of Transportation promised that it will just take 30 minutes from the end to end.
The P357 billion infrastructure under the “Build. Build. Build.” program will be operating its 3 out of 15 stations by 2022, while the rest of the construction will end by 2025.
"Inaugurating and groundbreaking is one thing, finishing it is another. We will finish this in 2022,” said Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade.
“Sabi nga sa Ingles, I will be watching you... This is what we want to achieve. Sa mga nagdududa, maniwala kayo,” he added.
The ground-breaking ceremony was supposed to happen last December 2018. However, they rescheduled it to January and then pushed it back to February because of conflicts in the schedule of both Japanese and Philippine officials.
