Opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV is now facing sedition charges filed by Pasay prosecutors for his inflammatory statements when his amnesty was revoked by President Rodrigo Duterte.

KAMI learned that the complaint was commenced by Labor Undersecretary Jacinto Paras, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner Manuelito Luna and lawyers Eligio Mallari and Nasser A. Marohomsalic.

According to a report by PTV News, the complaint stemmed from Trillanes’ remarks which included the following phrases:

“Mr. Duterte, hindi ako takot sa iyo.”
“Itong pangyayari na ito, it should be clear to everyone na si Mr. Duterte ay isang dictator. Hindi siya rumerespeto sa institusyon kaya ganito tayo. Kung ‘yung mga ordinaryong tao pinapatay, yung mga kritiko niya ikukulong so ganyan ang kalakaran sa Pilipinas ngayon.”

Here are the other phrases Trillanes said, as reported by the Philippine Star:

“Itong amnesty is an act of Congress. Hindi sya masusupersede ng isang executive order.”
“Alam niyo itong si Mr. Calida ang gumawa nito eh. Syempre gustung-gusto ng amo niyang si Duterte. They’ve been trying everything to stop this hearing na iko-conduct ko kay Mr. Calida.”
“Di ko maisip na they would go to great lengths, even make themselves look stupid para lang to get rid of me. Isa lang hamon ko eh. Pumirma sya ng waiver. Magkaalaman. Magreresign ako. Sabi ko papasok ako sa kulungan. Di mo kailangan gumawa ng ganitong kalokohan.”

However, the prosecutor said that the senator’s defense of parliamentary immunity is not applicable since the remarks were related to his amnesty revocation and were said to the media, not during a Senate session.

In a previous report by KAMI, Trillanes went to President Duterte’s hometown, Davao City, to face the libel charges filed against him by former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte and Atty. Mans Carpio.

It was the first time Trillanes went to Davao since he was declared as “persona non grata” for saying that the city was the “most dangerous” city in the country.
