Abby Binay is proclaimed Mayor of Makati City early morning on Tuesday, May 10, by the Official Board of Canvassers.
Binay's camp takes over Makati City once again as incumbent Mayor Kid Peña lost to Congresswoman Abby Binay in with 137,803 to 153,487 votes respectively.
Monique Lagdameo, Binay’s running mate, won as vice mayor, while Luis Campos, Abby’s husband, also took the lead in the congressional race with 74,205 votes.
In October 2015, Abby's brother and former Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. was dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with his alleged grave misconduct and dishonesty in the overpriced Makati carpark building.
In an earlier interview on May 9, Junjun said,
“It’s all part of the campaign to smear the name of my father and the rest of my family. Kung kulong lang, hindi kayang takutin ang tatay ko. Maraming beses nakulong tatay ko nung martial law. Nung high school ako, nakulong father ko for a case that was politically motivated,” Junjun added.
He denied the controversy that his father sought to be president for immunity against the corruption charges against him.
