President Rodrigo Duterte has given a warning to shut down PLDT Inc. if they will not add trunk lines to the 8888 complain hotline to address the concerns of the Filipinos.
KAMI learned that the President pointed out the busy hotlines of PLDT and asked former aide Christopher “Bong” Go to add new trunk line, as reported by GMA News.
“If you see corruption, tell me. Call 8888. Bong, add another trunk line. The present setup can’t accommodate all the calls. It’s always busy. Tell PLDT. If not, I’ll shut down their business,” Duterte said.
The President also mentioned that the largest telecommunications company in the country owes P8 billion to the government.
“Oo, that’s true. I don’t want to brag, but they owe the government eight billion [pesos]. No President has ever asked for payment. But when I became President, I said…,” the President stated.
According to a report by Philippine Star, PLDT Inc. said through a statement that they are addressing the concern President Duterte raised.
"We are currently taking steps to address the concern expressed by the President to improve the public's access to the Citizen's Complaint Center 8888 hotline number," it stated.
The 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Hotline was first established in August 2016. The main goal of the hotline is to address the concerns of the Filipinos in different government offices and/or agencies.
