Former GMA news broadcaster and Senate bet Jiggy Manicad has shared the story behind him joining the regional party of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP).

KAMI learned that the Senatorial aspirant liked the leadership of Duterte and called her “astig” for punching a sheriff, according to a report by ABS-CBN News.

"Naniniwala ako kay Mayor Sara (Duterte), 'yung brand of leadership niya. Astig siya, ginulpi niya 'yung sheriff. Ganun talaga ang gusto ng tao. Immediate action pag nagigipit sila,” Manicad said during his interview with ABS-CBN news anchor Karen Davila in ANC’s Headstart.

Davila asked if the former journalist agreed to the fact that the mayor punched the court sheriff.

“Ganun talaga ang gusto ng tao, na ‘yung immediate action kapag nagigipit sila, e,” Manicad said.

The Senate candidate also shared how he met the Davao City mayor. Manicad said that he was supposed to interview Duterte when the NCCC mall fire happened in Davao. However, the mayor canceled the interview last minute.

When asked on how he ended up with HNP, Manicad said that he was the one who presented to Duterte after filing as an independent candidate.

“I went to her, nag-present ako ng platform, and ang nakakatawa ron, para siyang sundalo na kausap. Ganyan siya, hindi siya kumukurap halos, ‘di nagre-react, ‘di umiiling,” Manicad said.

“And then, isa lang ‘yung sinabi niya towards the end of my presentation na sabi niya, ‘Sir, grassroots pala talaga ‘yung exposure mo,’ ‘Yes ma’am,’ sabi ko. ‘Nakita ko na lahat, nakita ko na, naramdaman ko na lahat’.”

“Sabi niya, ‘Sige, dalawa slate natin, may national and may local, may regional, dito kita sa regional isasama,” Manicad added.
