Liberal Party standard-bearer and administration presidential bet Manuel “Mar” Roxas III concedes defeat to Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte on Tuesday afternoon at the Liberal Party headquarters.
As Mayor Duterte maintains his far-flung lead in the presidential race, Mar Roxas wishes the mayor success.
“According to the unofficial tally of Comelec, Mayor Digong is the clear winner. I wish you success, Mayor Duterte. Your success is the success of the Filipino people,” Roxas said.
Roxas also expresses his gratefulness to those people who believed and supported him and the principles they fought for.
"Sa mga nagtiwala hindi lang sa akin pero pati na rin sa mga prinsipyo na ipinaglaban natin, maraming maraming salamat," he added.
Roxas’ unwavering support for her running-mate and Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robrero is also expressed in his concession speech.
"Ngayon, hindi pa tapos ang laban ni Leni. Angat siya. Lumalaban siya. Patuloy tayong magbantay, manalig at sumuporta. Siguraduhin natin na mabibiling ng tama ang kanyang boto," he said.
Sen. Grace Poe has earlier announced her concession to Mayor Duterte.
"Ako, si Grace Poe, ay nagbibigay-daan kay Rodrigo Duterte na siyang napili ng nakakarami sa ating mga kababayan," she said in a press conference.
Duterte said he accepted Poe's concession, and promised to stand for and support her advocacies.
"Since you go for the handshake, I accept it with humility. I can work with you. Paborito mo is electoral reforms, I will go for it, I will support it. Wala ho kayong problema sa akin. Consider me as your servant," he said.
The mayor also said that she can call him anytime and he will personally go to the Congress instead of Poe going to the Malacanang.
"Anytime tawagin mo ako, ako na pupunta sa Congress, huwag ka na pumunta sa Malacanang. Bad vibes ka diyan. Ilang beses ka pumunta, hindi ka talaga pumayag. Up to the last day, hindi ka talaga pumayag. Bilib ako," Duterte said, admiring Poe’s conviction despite Liberal Party Manuel “Mar” Roxas’ initiation.
