- Recently, the National Youth Commission head Ronald Cardema said that President Rodrigo Duterte should revoke the scholarships of student rallyists
- However, some senators condemned the remark of Cardema
- Sen. Chiz Escudero said that it should be Cardema who should be kicked out from his post and not the students
Some senators have aired their side about the recent remark of National Youth Commission (NYC) head Ronald Cardema. KAMI reported earlier that the NYC head urged President Rodrigo Duterte to revoke the scholarship of the students who join anti-government rallies and protests.
According to a report by Rappler, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan condemned the statement of Cardema.
"Hindi iligal ang sumama sa mga organisasyon na leftist at lalong hindi iligal at krimen ang magprotesta o sumali sa mga rally. Ang NYC ang gumagawa ng iligal na hakbang kung itutuloy nila ang iligal na patakaran," he said.
Senator Panfilo Lacson also shared that the students are just exercising their rights when they are speaking against the government and they "should not be penalized, not even kicked out of school."
In a report by GMA News, Senator Chiz Escudero said that Cardema’s “sycophantic and obsequious" suggestion just showed his “ignorance of the Constitution” and “far from helping, is surely doing a disservice to PRRD and the government.”
"Kung may sisipain (sa pwesto) dapat siya at di ang mga estudyante," Sen. Escudero said.
Escudero also insisted that the President and the government should serve the Filipinos “without distinction and regardless of political beliefs.”
"The Government is the government of those who agree with it and disagree with it... and the President is the President of those who voted for him and did not vote for him," Escudero said.
As previously reported by KAMI, NYC chief Cardema also said that he ordered the youth leaders of Sangguniang Kabataan and other organizations to report the youth leaders of student activists or those linked with the communist groups.
