The Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) released a data containing the expenses of the Senatorial aspirants during the pre-campaign period. KAMI learned that Christopher “Bong” Go, Imee Marcos, and Mar Roxas, were named as the Top 3 spenders in the Senate race.

In a report by Philippine Star, from January 2018 to January 2019, the Nielsen Media said that the combined adspending of 18 candidates reached to P2.4 billion.

They also added that those who have the lowest declared Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), are those who have the biggest ad campaign expenses. The possible reason for this could be hidden wealth, public funds or private donors.

The top spender in the senatorial race was former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Bong Go, with at least P422 million expenses. However, his declared SALN was almost P13 million.

Ranking second was Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, with P413 million expenditure and P24.4 million declared SALN.

Mar Roxas ranked the third with P401.2 million expenditure and P202 million worth of declared SALN.
