Senator Risa Hontiveros has spoken after Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has urged her to resign instead of asking Public Attorney’s Office chief Persida Acosta to leave her post amid measles outbreak.

KAMI learned that according to Hontiveros, the more Duterte criticizes her, the more she knows she has been doing the right thing.

“Every insult from the Mayor is a reading on the barometer I can use, second to none, to confirm how effective my office is in advancing democratic interests and goals,” Hontiveros said as reported by Manila Bulletin.

“Sa bawat banat niya, nalalaman natin na tama ang ating ginagawa,’’ she added.

Hontiveros also broke her silence over the social media post of Duterte criticizing the opposition of lowering the age of criminal responsibility, according to the report of Inquirer.

“The last time Mayor Sara had something to say about me, she ridiculed my opposition to the lowering of the Minimum Age of Criminal Responsibility (MACR), even kindly ‘advising’ me to walk the streets to ‘know the reality on the ground’,” the senator said.

“Excuse me, I started my work life as a community organizer among farmers and fisherfolk 30 years ago in Rizal province. And unfortunately for the good mayor, the recent Social Weather Station (SWS) survey showed that the majority of Filipinos oppose the lowering of the MACR.

“How’s that for a reality check?" she added.

As previously reported by KAMI, Hontiveros wanted Acosta to resign from her post. Acosta was being blamed for the measles outbreak in the country that can be attributed to the low vaccination coverage due to the Dengvaxia scare.
