Police Officer 1 William Cristobal received a 'Medalya ng Papuri' award for his exemplary tolerance when he got splashed with taho by an angry Chinese commuter over the weekend.
The police officer was awarded on Monday's flag-raising ceremony in Camp Crame.
Cristobal was assigned at the MRT Boni Station in Mandaluyong City. The incident went viral which earned mixed reactions from the netizens. Majority of them wanted the Chinese national deported. As for Cristobal, he was admired and praised for his patience.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Oscar Albayalde also attended the ceremony.
The 23-year-old Chinese student Jiale Zhang was arrested over the incident.
The new rule about banning any form of liquids inside the train is a security measure following the recent deadly bombings in Mindanao.
Cristobal said he was not expecting the award as he was just doing his job. He thanked the PNP for the award.
