- Gary Valenciano is one of the judges in “World of Dance Philippines”
- Few weeks after the show aired, some netizens already complained about his judging style
- Gary immediately explained his side regarding the issue
Veteran singer Gary Valenciano has become the subject of public interest because of his style of judging in the newly-installed show of ABS-CBN entitled “World of Dance Philippines.”
KAMI learned that the aforementioned musician is part of the new television series as one of the jurors alongside fellow artists Maja Salvador and Billy Crawford.
A lot of netizens noticed that Gary often looks and bases his ratings on the background story of the dancers rather than their overall performance.
Some even claimed that whenever the said judge gets inspired or touched by a contestant’s life, a high score is already expected to be given.
Here are some of the comments:
“Sana magfocus nalang sila sa talent ng mga contestants. Masyado pong OA kasi yung back stories at yung pag-interact ng mga judges.”
“Ang pinapanood dito ay mga magagaling sumayaw, hindi mga magagaling magdala ng isyu at magpaiyak.”
“Yung medyo dramatic ang istorya ng buhay at umiiyak-iyak, ayun mataas ang score kahit simple lang ang sayaw.”
According to the veteran singer, these comments are not new to him since he has also read several feedbacks from various social media users regarding the way he judges.
He even admitted that bashers often call the show as “World of Drama” or “World of Awa” upon seeing how he rates the contestants.
However, for Gary, knowing all these “drama” is an important basis to relate to the performance and know the message that the participant is trying to convey through his dance.
“There were some who were questioning how I judge… I tell them it’s these contestants’ ‘drama’ that inspired them to do what they do. Just like in ‘Tawag ng Tanghalan,’ they all have stories of how they sing to provide for their families,” he quipped in an interview with Inquirer.
“I’m not judging that, but their singing or dancing. I respond to some of them to say, ‘Hindi gano’n.’ They don’t respond anymore. To me, that means they got what I was trying to say,” he added.
In a previous article by KAMI, Gary bravely exposed his thoughts about the controversial reformatting of “ASAP.”
Gary Valenciano is considered as one of the most respected and highly-valued singers in the Philippines. He rested for a while in showbiz because of having to undergo an open heart surgery but now he is back on television.
