- A viral photo showed that President Rodrigo Duterte has visited Pope Francis
- However, it has been discovered that the photo was manipulated
- The post was first published by Facebook pages supporting Bong Go and Bato dela Rosa
A social media post has claimed that President Rodrigo Duterte met with Pope Francis when he made a state visit to the Vatican City. However, KAMI learned that the claim was false.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, the post showed a photo of Pope Francis shaking hands with President Duterte. The post was published by Facebook pages supporting Senate candidates former PNP chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa and former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher “Bong” Go .
“Ito ang hindi pinapakita sa media dahil puro paninira lang ang alam nila. Sa State visit ni Pangulong Duterte sa Vatican ay kinausap niya si Pope Francis at sinabi nyang ‘God will save you from your critics’,” it said in the caption.
A French news agency, Agence French-Presse has conducted a reverse image search. They found out that the photo was fabricated. The original photo was first used by Associated Press when Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg met with Pope Francis on August 29, 2016.
