Explainer: Why is it suggested to wear red underwear this coming Chinese New Year?

The Chinese are now preparing to follow traditions that attract luck for the upcoming Chinese New Year. KAMI learned that it has been suggested to wear red underwear this Chinese New Year.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, many things considered as lucky charms by Chinese are being sold since the Chinese New Year is drawing near.

The most popular one is the pineapple surrounded by kiat kiat or dalandan that should be hung at the front door so that the luck will come in. The Chinese also believe that ginger and taro are considered lucky as it symbolize prosperity.

A known delicacy during Chinese New Year is “tikoy”, which symbolizes harmonious relationship. The price of tikoy ranges from P40 to P300 which also varies to its size.

Wearing red underwear during Chinese New Year is also considered lucky according to Maxie Tiu of Charme General Mechandising.

"If you wear red panty, 'yung harmony magiging maganda ang aura natin. Iyung mga bad energy hindi lumalapit sa atin and the good will come in kasi tutulungan tayo kasi naka-red panty," said Tiu.

However, Tiu shared that it is still better to pray and be generous aside from following these Chinese traditions.

"This is a pig year, think positive and thank God na okay tayo ngayon... Importante to have a good heart and you will have good karma," Tiu stated.

The Chinese New Year will be celebrated on February 5. It has been declared as a national holiday by President Rodrigo Duterte. This 2019, it is the Year of the Pig.
